The emtity known as Nigeria celebrated her Democracy Day on Saturday the 12th of June amd the event actually marked the date eligible voters trooped out enmasse to cast their ballots to their preferred candidate in 1993.
However, before delving into a historical hint of June 12, one of Nigeria’s most successful business tigeress and the Iyalaje Oodua, Princess Dr. Toyin Kolade has felicitated with Nigerians on this year’s celebration of Democracy Day expressing her believe that for Nigeria to move forward, it is very important to make a recourse to history and according to her, the country must not forget the sacrifice of the late Chief MKO Abiola who contested alongside Alhaji Babagana Kingibe under the Social Democratic Party (SDP).
Sadly, the election globally recognised as the freest and fairest was annuled by Gen. Ibrahim Babangida and the outcome back then was very nasty with thousands of lives lost. According to the highly revered Iyalaje Kolade, June 12 was the catalyst of the nascent democracy gained in 1999, forcinf the military boys back into their barracks.
